Toikka Long-Eared Owl

The long-eared owl is known for its seemingly surprised expression, largely due to its ear tufts that point straight out. Professor Oiva Toikka captures this characteristic beautifully and artistically in his glass interpretation of the species. The dome-shaped bird is made from clear glass with metallic specks, which vary greatly in size and placement as unique marks from iittala's glassblowers in Finland. The alert eyes and protruding brow are other striking details that require great care and craftsmanship during the mouth-blowing process.
